A colleague told me about the Dress for Success pop-up shop a few years back, plus I was already familiar with the organisation from back home in Ireland.

Why did you come to us for assistance?

I was in a new job and wanted some reassurance about my ability to tackle the learning required. I also needed help with some work conversations.

How did we help you?

The help I got was broader than job hunting advice. You set me up with a mentor, Norris Busletta, and she provided a good sounding board. We met regularly and worked on refining my CV and covering letters, and she provided sound advice on challenging workplace discussions.

How did our mentor make you feel?

I felt supported and listened to. I got reassurance in my approach and this helped build my confidence. Norris was like a wise aunty, always there to champion my cause. I could test my thinking and feel validated in it.

Did our assistance meet your expectations?

Yes, and I would recommend it to other people. If you want guidance from a seasoned professionals with strong expertise, they can assist you in clarifying your overall objectives and advancing your career.

What was the result?

I felt a lot more confident and equipped for my job. I achieved my goals and got some lovely acknowledgement of this.

How would you define success

Success is setting then achieving your goals and allowing yourself to feel a sense of satisfaction from reaching them, and celebrating this.

What advice would you give others?

Push yourself to give things a go, even if at first they feel scary.

What next – have you set any goals?

With mentoring I achieved my goals because I wanted to get into long-term project management. The next step is to get into information technology project management.
