Bhoomi is new to Aotearoa and through Yes for Success she has gained a lot of confidence and help with settling into her new country and culture.
How did you hear about Yes for Success?
Through Volunteer Wellington – there was an administrative role advertised.
Can you tell us a bit about why you came to us for assistance?
I am new to New Zealand, so volunteering was a good way to start understanding and adapting to my new country.
What did you hope to achieve?
I wanted to gain work experience and to understand the customs and culture a little more. It also helps me to practice my English and keep busy.
How did we help you?
I got the administration position and through it I gained confidence and improved language skills, and learnt about good customer service and clothing management. I also used the career coaching service, which helped a lot with my resumé and covering letter writing. We also covered how to dress and behave in an interview, which was very informative.
How did our volunteers make you feel?
I felt comfortable at Yes for Success because everyone was very helpful.
Did our programmes meet your expectations?
Yes, they absolutely did.
What was the result?
I am now well set up to go out and get a good and satisfying job.
What next – have you set any other goals?
I don’t have any other goals at the moment, other than getting a job in this current tough labour market.
How would you define success?
For me, success is achieved through lifelong learning and drawing happiness from even the small things.
Are you thinking of using any of our other programmes, such as mentoring, attending our success workshops, or volunteering?
I would like to volunteer again at Yes for Success to help me gain yet more confidence and experience.
How else could we help you to achieve your goals?
You’ve already helped so much!
What advice would you give to other people looking to make a change?
Be happy, helpful, and focus on your goals. Don’t let yourself get distracted or disheartened – stay on track.
