Pearl has landed her dream job with help from our stylists. Facing redundancy earlier this year, Pearl looked to the skies for a complete career change. This week we congratulate her on achieving that goal – after ten years in sales, she is now on her way to becoming a cabin crew flight attendant with an international airline.
Before coming to YFS, Pearl had secured an interview but needed the right outfit. We teamed her with one of our volunteer stylists who helped her look and feel the part with the perfect suit – and she got the job! Once she’s graduated from her training, she’ll be combining her new career with her love of travel.
This is a fantastic outcome for Pearl and her family, and we’re thrilled with her success.
How did you hear about YFS?I heard about it through Capital Training. Our class had a tour through the YFS Wellington Hub where we learned about how you assist people.
Why did you come to us for assistance? I had been made redundant from my previous job and was looking for new work. I got an interview with an airline but it required a black business suit, which I didn’t have.
How did we help you?YFS set me up with a stylist, Violet, who did an excellent job finding the perfect pieces for my interview outfit.
How did our volunteers make you feel?Violet and Sasmita, the Wellington Hub Coordinator, were so welcoming and accommodating! They made me feel like I looked the part and could get the job.
Did our programme meet your expectations? It exceeded my expectations. I was quite overwhelmed with how amazing it was.
What was the result? Success! I got the job.
How would you define success? I define success as having the confidence to follow your dreams and keeping at it until you’ve achieved them.
What advice would you give others? If you need assistance with getting a job, absolutely come to Yes for Success. The team is behind you 100% and will aide you on your journey to success. And don’t be afraid of change, sometimes it opens up new opportunities you didn’t think were in your reach.
What next – have you set any goals? The main reason I wanted this job was to travel the world with my children. In my last role I travelled New Zealand extensively and was able to show my sons the coolest spots. Now we want to go further. They are so excited to be able to choose anywhere in the world to celebrate their birthdays next year. My eldest has chosen Japan for his 18th. For me, there are so many places I’d like to see or revisit – Italy, Perth, Chicago…it’s a long list.
