Work Experience
Learn valuable skills and experience to help you find paid employment.
Are you looking for your first job? Perhaps you're new to the area, or maybe you're looking to gain a new set of skills?
Our Work Experience participants volunteer in our recycled clothing boutiques and clothing management room. They're an important part of our team and during their time with us they gain valuable retail skills and experience to help them find work. Including:
Getting used to the workplace and the working day.
Learning to work as part of a team, as well as being given your own responsibilities.
Meeting new people and growing your communication skills.
Learning how to use our retail software.
Learning about style and how to advise customers on clothing.
Learning about our clothing management processes.
And lots more!
There are also opportunities for work experience in our office, where you'll learn a range of digital skills and provide support with administration and marketing.
You'll have plenty of great content for your CV and lots to talk about at interview. We may also give you a reference so make sure you make the most of your time with us!
FAQs
I'm new to New Zealand and want to improve my language skills can I join?
Yes! We understand that the easiest way to become fluent in a new language is to practise. We'll provide you with suitable tasks while your language improves.
I'm a student, can I volunteer on your work experience programme?
Yes you can. We have many students who enjoy working with us and gain skills and experience to help them find a job after they graduate.
Can I get paid?
All work experience is voluntary.
What's the difference between work experience and normal volunteering?
Our work experience programme is aimed at giving you skills and experience to find employment. It's often a short term commitment as, while we'd love you to stay on as a volunteer, we understand that your new job or study commitments may mean you don't have the time. Our permanent volunteers support us on an ongoing basis.
